What ERO found

The Education Review Office’s latest report on the school is a School Evaluation Report from November 2024. ERO found that progress and achievement had not yet improved since its previous review and that results remain uneven for Māori and Pacific students.

Less than half of students gain NCEA Level 1 or Level 3, a small majority gain Level 2, and few gain University Entrance.

Only about a third of students attend regularly. ERO noted some steps forward: leaders now track NCEA task completion more closely, attendance follow-up has been strengthened with a small improvement, and the school has brought in outside expertise on curriculum and school culture.

ERO recommended that the Ministry of Education consider an intervention under the Education and Training Act to bring about improvement in health and safety and school culture, leadership of learning, attendance and achievement, planning, and employment.

The agreed next steps are to redevelop the junior curriculum, build reliable tracking of Year 9 and 10 literacy and maths, review learning support, reduce behaviour incidents and stand-downs, and lift regular attendance.

Enrolling

Students who live in the home zone have the right to enrol, and proof of residence is needed. Out-of-zone places are offered under the school’s enrolment scheme, by ballot when there are more applicants than places. The enrolment page shows whether in-zone and out-of-zone applications are open.

Families apply online, and the school then arranges an interview and orientation before a student starts. The enrolment page also lists the information evening and Year 8 open day, and links the zone map, uniform guidelines and subject options.
