Common questions
Is there a fenced dog park in Hamilton?
Yes, one. Minogue Park in Forest Lake has the city's only fully fenced dog exercise area, with seats and a dog water fountain. The other off lead parks are shared and unfenced.
Can I take my dog to Hamilton Lake?
Yes, on a lead on the lake paths. Dogs can be off lead on the greenspace at the reservoir, but not in the playground and picnic area or on the lawn around The Verandah Cafe.
Do dogs have to be on a lead in Hamilton?
Yes, everywhere except the council's dog exercise areas, including streets, footpaths and the river paths. In the exercise areas your dog must still be under control, and you must carry a lead and a poo bag.
