What ERO found

The Education Review Office’s latest report on the school is a Private School Review Report from November 2022. Reviews of private schools are narrower than those of state schools: ERO checks whether the school still meets the legal criteria for registration, covering its premises, staffing, equipment, curriculum, tuition standards, managers and student safety.

At the time of the visit ERO found the school was not meeting part of two criteria, because some non-teaching staff had not been police vetted again on the three-yearly cycle and recruitment procedures had not been updated to require it.

The school dealt with both during and after the review, and ERO concluded that it meets all the criteria for registration as a private school.

ERO also looked at the school’s care of international students and its boarding hostel. International students were well integrated into school life, had access to the full curriculum and said they felt supported.

Boarders live in four houses, three for boys and one for girls, and told ERO they valued the care they receive; ERO found systems that look after their physical and emotional safety and that give them more independence as they move up the school.

Enrolling

St Paul’s is a private school, so tuition fees apply and are set out on the school’s fees page. Families apply online, ideally well ahead of the start year, and there is no fee to apply.

Applicants may be invited to a family interview, with a video introduction and school report sent beforehand, and the school says priority for interviews often goes to families with a connection to the school.

An offer is accepted by paying the enrolment fee and signing the admissions agreement, and when a year group is full the school keeps a wait pool.
